Sleepless in Columbus

I'm usually a good sleeper.  I snore, I drool, I dream all the time.  But not last night.   Last night, began the first of many sleepless nights to come.   First, there was a blanket issue.  We have 2 blankets on our bed; a top layer which is usually folded at the foot of the bed at night, then a bottom blanket and sheets that we sleep under.

Last night Brian decided to sleep on top of the sheets and bottom blanket, but under the folded top blanket.   I slept under the bottom layer, which limited my movement and I was much warmer since the folded blanket was pulled up.  I thew the top blanket off me, but then it was piled on top of Brian and he woke up sweating.  In addition to getting twisted and tangled in the blanket, I somehow lost one of my pillows and woke up with a wonky neck cramp.  We definitely won't be making these same mistakes again!

Then there was the issue with an overactive nocturnal cat.  Simone the Cat sleeps all day and wants to play all night. When the clock strikes 10pm, she turns into an acrobat and marathon runner.  She gallops around the house and plays with anything that is not bolted down.  She attacks our feet when we move under the covers.  She paws at our hair and wants to play on our heads while we (try to) sleep.  She sneaks under the blankets and runs around like it's a cat playhouse.  While she is very sweet and fun to watch play, she is driving us bonkers and keeping us up all night.  I think a new "mommy" project has begun as I try to change Simone's schedule from being a day time sleeper, to being a night time one.

Now, the main cause of my sleepless nights...Baby Jones!  I usually wake up twice during the night to pee.  In addition to the constant trips to the bathroom, I'm not able to sleep on my stomach any longer as my belly has begun to grow, making it hard to get comfortable.   I'm not a back sleeper, so the only positions that work are left and right side-sleeping.  When I sleep on my right side my arms fall asleep.  It happens every time.  Luckily, I can sleep on my left side without any problems. Whew!  I don't know how easy it would be if I had to sleep standing up!

My mom bought me a c-shaped body pillow (a snoogle) which will definitely help me get comfortable.  It curves around my body and will give me lots of support when my belly gets big.  I adore it! Thanks Mom!

After writing this entry and getting my morning housework done, I am now ready for a nap! I really hope to catch some Zzz's.   Today is Jackson's 5th birthday and we have a fun filled afternoon planned which will require lots of energy.  Happy Birthday Jackson!

Hot tea, or a warm bath before bed can do wonders... too funny about your cat though!
