10 weeks down...30 more to go!

Today marks my 10th week of pregnancy and our 5th ultrasound. So far everything is perfect! In just a few weeks, I'll be in my 2nd trimester and out of the woods! I can't tell you how much relief came after seeing the baby's heart beating strong and his/her body growing like bananas. Those few moments before the ultrasound begins are always my most difficult. I have so much anxiety that something might be wrong, but within seconds of seeing the baby alive and well, I exhale and my blood pressure drops back down to a normal level!

The baby is still growing right on track and looks great. Arms and legs are becoming more defined and the head is still as large as the body. The baby was on his/her back so it was harder to see the outline of the body, but the profile was more clear! You can see in this picture the head is on the right, with a profile (facing up) and the left arm is running along the baby's side.

Today was very special because Shawnie came with us to see our little one. It was her very first ultrasound experience! She got to see the rapid heartbeat and the baby wiggling back and forth with arms and legs waving around! Brian was able to catch a bit of the baby moving on video! Coming soon!

I also heard great news from my friend Kelly that she and her husband are expecting their first baby on January 4, which is just 2 weeks before I'm due (Jan 20)! We were very close friends in high school and I'm so lucky that we have remained friends all these years! I can't believe we're having babies at the same time! So fun

We have another ultrasound in 2 weeks and should be able to hear the heartbeat via doppler. We then have another ultrasound 3 weeks later to hopefully find out the gender! Dr. Missy thought she saw a "little something" today, but she said she has been wrong before when guessing the gender this early. We will be able to see boy or girl parts more clearly in about 5-7 weeks!

Shawnie and I were at the mall today and saw the cutest bedding and baby gear at Pottery Bark Kids...I can't wait to start prepping the nursery! I was surprisingly more drawn to boy stuff than girl stuff. Perhaps it's because I'm always shopping for Jackson...or maybe it's my gut trying to tell me something?!?
