It hit me this past weekend...that instinctual need to nest during pregnancy. I couldn't help myself. I started by cleaning my entire house from top to bottom. I steam cleaned my carpets, washed every linen in the house, cleaned out closets, bought some new household items (coffee table and some artwork) and purged (not so old) stuff that just didn't "fit" anymore. We also did a round of yard work, so the outside of the house looks great too!
My first nesting project was to tackle Jackson's room. He already had a very cute bedroom, but it needed a bit of updating now that he is a mature 5 years old. He use to have bedding from Target that had cars on it, but he was starting to out grow it. I decided to purchase this super cute Madras bedding from Pottery Barn Kids. Shawnie was kind enough to let me use her 40% off discount (What a great reason to work at Williams Sanoma!) and the bedding was also on sale, so I got it for a bargain! It makes his room look very "big boy" and not so toddler. I also cleaned out some of his old toys and clothes that he's outgrown. He's now ready to start Kindergarten and be a big brother!
My next project is going to be our master bedroom. We need some new bedding and I would love to remove the closet doors which are mirrored and replace them with simple louvered doors. Our house was built in the late 80's when mirrors were the hot ticket item, but they are not so hot anymore. We also have plans to update our kitchen, the bathrooms and the wetbar in the living room. Of course this all takes time and money, so it's going to be a slow work in progress but Brian is a pro at projects like this. Mandy's Handy Randy can do it all!
We're getting excited to start plans for the nursery. Our office space is the perfect room in our house for the baby. It's next to our bedroom, there's a lovely bay window with a bench seat and it will be very quiet. One of the walls is an open banister (sort of like a loft) so Brian and his dad plan to build a wall to close the space. I suspect they will start this in late July, early August and will be finished within one or two weekends. By the time the wall is built, we will know for sure if we're having a boy or girl and can start painting and decorating. I have nursery ideas for both genders so I'm sure it won't take me long to get it all together. I will be on a mission to be 'baby-ready" by the time I reach my 3rd trimester.
I already found a crib, changing table and side table which we will purchase as soon as the nursery is painted! I tend to be a little impatient when I'm excited about something. I suppose this is a good thing, especially when we're counting down until the arrival of this new little bundle of joy! Six months seems like a long time away, but time goes so fast when you're busy! I can't believe how fast the first 3 months have already gone. Ticky Tocky!
