We're hoping to find out the gender of our baby in a few weeks and have had fun guessing what it could be, up to this point. Some woman just know, other woman have dreams which point them in one direction or another and me... well I have no clue! Brian guesses we're having a boy, but he doesn't seem convinced. I often think pink, but then find myself drawn to blue. There's a 50% chance of either, so I suppose I'm right either way!
I've read about many gender predictions tests to determine the sex of your baby and never felt compelled to try any of them, until last night! I was watching crappy tv (I'm ashamed to admit I was watching "Bethanny Getting Married") and she did a thread and needle test to guess what she was having. Here's the process: Hang a needle over your belly...if it swings side to side like a pendulum you're having a boy. If it swirls in circles you're having a girl.
Brian had Randys practice last night so I was at home left to my own devices, soooooo I did this silly test just to pass some time. It took me a few minutes to find my sewing kit, but soon I had a needle threaded and was ready to go. Before I started I turned the ceiling fan off. I wanted to make sure a breeze didn't interfere with the outcome. At this point, I actually started to take it serious and was on a mission to do it right (Is there a right or wrong way of doing it?!?).
Anyway, I sprawled on the bed and hung the needle over my rounding belly. I kept my hand very still and made sure the thread was untangled and straight....I didn't want unnecessary spin! At first nothing. THEN, the needle started to move...in a swirling circular motion! I quickly grabbed the needle, almost startled by the outcome. Then I tried again. As the needle hung there, I held my breath as not to blow the needle in any direction! (Yes, I was really getting into it!) The needle hung there motionless, then it started moving again... in circles! It didn't just randomly swing around. It was in perfect orbit around my belly button! So after 2 solid tries, the needle predicts that we will have a girl!
Of course I don't rely on any of these methods, but it's really fun to play around with them and guess. I've read about others like The Chinese Prediction Calendar which is based on your age and month of conception (it predicts a girl for us!) and The Drano Test (mix pee with Drano to see what color it turns), however, I 'm not a fan of peeing into a cup unless I'm at the dr. office, so I will not be performing that test. We have an ultrasound on Wednesday, and we may be able to detect the gender, but it also might be too early.
In a way, I like not knowing. It's fun just loving the idea of a "baby" and not a boy or a girl specifically. Once we know which private parts it has, the mystery will be gone. For now, we're not rushing the big reveal and are being patient for that special moment. It's only going to happen once!
