Brian and I already have a pretty solid idea for the nursery that we both really love. Whimsical birds! Brian's mom has always been fascinated with birds and passed on this fascination to Brian. He loves to identify them by their markings or calls. He can even identity them when they are flying overhead, based on the shape of their body during flight or the colors on the bottoms of their wings. I'm always so impressed and intrigued and now actively participate in the "name that bird" game while we're out and about. I saw an interesting (huge) Owl in our backyard a few months ago and figured out what type it was...I was quite proud of myself. Jackson even asks about different birds and was thoroughly entertained by the Ostrich at the Zoo the other day. My mom sends us weekly updates and pictures of the little feathered creatures that take up residence on her front porch every year.
So, as you can see we didn't just randomly choose a bird themed nursery ~ it actually means something to us. I'm so excited to get this ball rolling now that we have a plan! We are choosing earthy colors for paint and will probably get white furniture instead of dark wood since the room isn't very big. The lighter colors should help keep the space feeling open. I've been looking for inspirations for the decor and found the most adorable things on Droolicious and Etsy. I saw some little bird houses and a tree lamp that I just adore. We will add other whimsical touches here and there for variety. Brian is quite creative and crafty and hopes to make the mobile (branches with birds or a nest with birds hanging - something like that). Here's a picture of something that he will use to inspire his final product.
Even though we don't know the gender of the baby yet we can still go forward with plans since birds and earthy colors can go either way. We can accent with other colors later once we know what we're having. Speaking of which, we should find out in a few weeks! We have an ultrasound next Wednesday (July 28) and also plan to have a 3D-4D u/s done soon after if we can't find out during our routine u/s. I've heard lots of guesses that it's a girl and only a few said it's a boy. This little birdie can't wait to find out!
