A few months ago I accidentally broke my favorite rolling pin. I was unloading all of my supplies while preparing to teach my French cooking class when my Vic Firth barrel rolling pin began to roll down the counter and right off the end until it crashed to the floor. I was so sad to see that the wooden handle split and the pin was completely unusable - and I needed one for class...stat! Luckily, Shawnie lives just around the corner from our teaching kitchen, so she ran home and got her rolling pin to use, which happens to be identical to mine, just in the nick of time to roll out dough for a French apple tart and some pan au chocolat. After class I showed Brian my broken pin and asked if he could fix it. Last week he was sweet enough to take the time out of his crazy busy schedule to contact the maker, Vic Firth, and ask them to send us replacement parts so that we could put my beloved rolling pin back in the game. VF was quick to respond and sent the new handle right away. She looks good as new!
Vic Firth makes amazing rolling pins, however they are better known for making drum sticks for musicians. Brian has always used VF sticks and was very excited to give me a few different rolling pins also designed by VF. My other favorite pin is the tapered French rolling pin (top picture - front rolling pin). Anyway, it's pretty cool that Brian and I both use Vic Firth tools though we have such very different crafts!
