This past Christmas we had my mom visit for a few days so she could spend the holiday with us. It was really fun having here here to celebrate and enjoy the festivities. It was a busy holiday as usual. Lots of shopping and wrapping like always, only this year I did practically all of my shopping online. I'm sure the mailman wondered what could have been in all those boxes he delivered for weeks on end. The shopping continued well after Christmas though because we had stacks of gift cards to use! We traveled to Pittsburgh and Mantua and had some good quality time with everyone. Another wonderful Christmas on the books!
One of the fun parts of winter was celebrating Sam's birthday. This year we had a little family party for him at home and he loved it. After he went to bed, we blew up 50 balloons and put them in his bedroom as a surprise! It was really nerve wracking putting them in his room because we were so afraid of one popping against the bumpy ceiling and terrify him. Luckily, none popped through the night and when he woke, he was completely surprised and excited! Such a cute memory to have!
Winter was long and brutal this year. The temperatures were so cold that school was always being cancelled and the entire city shut down more than once. We got tons of snow too, which the boys didn't mind at all. I couldn't care less to have snow and was not sad to see it go! I'm so thankful Spring has arrived and summer is just around the corner.
Flowers are blooming and everything is turning green again. The trees are full of leaves, the birds have returned to our feeders and our porch baskets are full of colorful flowers. Sadly, our weeping cherry tree didn't have any floral blooms this year which we attribute to the harsh winter. I could kick Mother Nature's butt for pulling such a mean stunt like that. My favorite week of the year (around Big Brown) is when the weeping cherry is in full bloom with a million pink flowers and it smells simply delicious. This pic is from last year. Isn't it lovely?!?
As soon as the weather warmed up, we've taken advantage of every opportunity to get outside. We went to the OSU Spring Game, a Clippers baseball game, an Easter Egg hunt, the circus, the Zoo, park and lots of walks around our neighborhood. This spring, Jackson started Lacrosse, which means lots of outdoor practices and games, too. His team, the Blue Jays, has been undefeated this season! We're off to a good start this Spring!
Big news for Sam! He started preschool in March! He'd been asking to go to school for weeks, so we decided to pull the trigger earlier than planned and we couldn't be happier with the decision. He absolutely adores it! His teacher's name is Mrs. Montenero and she's super sweet. The other teacher in the classroom is Mrs. Holmberg and Sam talks about her all the time! Mrs. M. was due to have a baby in April so her substitute has been in the classroom since then. Her name is Mrs. Hammersmith...another really nice teacher. We couldn't be happier with the school and how well he's doing there!
In Early April we took a trip to San Antonio, TX and San Francisco, CA to visit friends and family! It was Sam's first time traveling via airplane and he did awesome! Our trip was great and I wish it could have lasted longer, but we were happy to spend quality time with some of our favorite people! I still haven't uploaded all of my pics, but I'll get to it soon!
So, as you can see we've been a busy little family lately! We've got lots of fun stuff planned this Spring and Summer, so I'll try not to wait too long for another update! Cheers!
