This past summer a friend, Genevieve asked me and my sister Shawnie to help plan an event in Columbus which was inspired by an article she read in the New York Times about a pop-up picnic, Diner en Blanc, that was about to happen in NYC. After reading about the history of this particular picnic we were so excited to hop on board with planning a similarly fabulous picnic in Columbus!

To make it our own we decided to name our event Fete en Blanc or The White Feast. The idea behind our event was to invite our closest friends and let them invite their friends. So everyone was no more than 2 degrees from knowing one of us. We sent invitations to all of our friends via Facebook and Twitter and let them know the date and time, but kept the location a secret! We told them they have to wear white, bring their own tables/chairs/linens/food and prepare to create a spectacle! To our surprise the guest list grew to a whopping 400 people very quickly! We offered the option of buying tickets via paypal and also partnered with a local gourmet market, The Hills Market, and offered pre-purchased picnic dinners that guests could pick up at the secret Fete location. So, after those details were ironed out we began working on the fun stuff like entertainment and decorations!
We hired the best band in Columbus, The Randys to perform for the evening. I'm not just saying they are the best because my husband is the drummer for the band...they truly are the most fun and happy band around and I knew, without a doubt, they would get everyone dancing and shaking their tail-feathers! And they did!
We were so terrified we'd have to cancel the picnic because it was pouring all day, but our venue, The Columbus Commons was kind enough to let us use a tent they had on site for another event schedule for the following day. Fete en Blanc turned out to be a huge success even though it rained all day. The tent offered a dry and surprisingly romantic and fun atmosphere!
