Showering Sam

This past weekend my mom, Kitty, and Aunt Sherry hosted a baby shower for us in Pittsburgh.  Just 5 weeks ago my mom offered to throw the shower and began planning and scheming right away!  She recruited Sherry to help and thus began the baby shower madness!

Saturday morning my mom was up and out the door at the crack of dawn to begin decorating and setting things in motion for the shower which took place at Sherry's house - which is conveniently located across the street from my Mom's house!  A few hours later I received a call that everything was ready!  After waiting all morning for the green light to come over I arrived to discover lots of sweet decorations, yummy food, adorable bird topped cupcakes and sweets, a heap of gifts for Sam and two very excited woman waiting with bated breath to see my reaction!   It was definitely a very sweet moment!

Guests started arriving a short time later.  I was so very excited to see the many faces that I hadn't seen in years.  Aunts and cousins poured in, all of whom brought back some great memories from my childhood.  I was quite surprised to see a friend from college, Rachel, whom I didn't think could make it.  It was also so great to see my friend Kelly from high school who also happens to be pregnant and due in January!   It meant so much to me that all of the special woman from my past, present and future made an effort to come and celebrate our baby's upcoming arrival with us!

During the shower we played a few fun and simple games like Bingo and Word Scramble.  The winners were quite pleased with their prizes, which were from the cute country/Americana store in town.  After some socializing and games, I opened the many gifts I received for Samuel!  I cannot believe how many different baby items crossed my lap that day!  Everything from diapers, wipes, clothes, bottles and pacifiers to a stroller, car seat, bouncer seat, baby monitors and the very popular Bumbo Seat!   I'm so grateful for all the gifts we received to help us prepare for Sam's arrival.  Each and every gift will be put to good use!

The final phase of the shower involved one of my favorite things in the world...Food!   Sherry and Mom did a great job choosing a yummy menu and preparing some fabulous cookies and desserts!  My mother-in-law, Elaine contributed some cute bird cookies too! The cupcakes were from the famous Oakmont Bakery, which was recently voted Best Retail Bakery in the Country.  Lucky us for being treated to such fabulous treats!  Brian arrived a short time later to say hello to everyone and show his gratitude to all of the lovely ladies that helped spoil Sam all day!

After a fabulous day of showering our little Samuel I was thoroughly tuckered out.   I went to bed at a reasonable hour, however, after a few hours of sleep, Sam decided he was going to wake me up with kicks and punches that could take a grown man down.  After a few hours of beating Mama up, he finally settled down and I was able to catch a few more winks.  We had a fantastically greasy breakfast before hitting the road back to Ohio.  Once we arrived back in Columbus we unpacked, got settled and had some time to chat about what a lovely time we had in Pittsburgh.  It was certainly a weekend we won't forget!
